The scaling curve

The bigger they get, the more they hire in LATAM

This is the clearest pattern in the dataset: 8% of YC companies with 1–10 people have someone in Latin America, against 70% of those above 1,000. Hiring in the region is not the exception — it's what YC companies do as soon as they can scale. Base: 3,532 companies with a YC-reported team size; 62 companies whose indexed profiles exceed their YC-reported size by more than 3× are excluded, because the YC figure freezes at graduation.

Top talent hubs, beyond the obvious

The US leads — no surprise. The story is who's #2: India alone holds more indexed YC talent than the next eight countries combined. Latin America shows up strong across six countries, and with the timezone India can't offer.

India proved the offshore model. Latin America is the next one — and it's still wide open.

The best YC companies already run huge teams offshore: 43,505 indexed profiles in India alone. Latin America — strong U.S. time-zone overlap, overlapping workday, deep engineering talent — sits at 21,585. And 2,440 companies with workforce data show no observed presence in the region yet (a further 548 have no workforce data at all, so they are not counted either way).

Methodology

How the sample was built. Company universe: the public Y Combinator directory (yc-oss), every company listed with Active or Public status — 3,707 in total, across batches through 2027. No manual selection and no ranking filter: if a company is in the directory with one of those two statuses, it is in the map.

Workforce geography. Indexed public professional profiles, scoped to current roles and filtered by title to exclude non-employees. 3,159 companies have at least one indexed profile; 548 have none and are reported separately rather than as zeros. YC-reported team size is YC's own figure and freezes at graduation, so for older companies it can sit far below indexed profiles — 62 companies diverge by more than 3× and are excluded from the size curve. Indexed counts are directional, not verified headcount, and consistent across companies for comparison. Workforce snapshot as of September 2026. Talent geography comes from indexed public professional profiles, scoped to current roles. 3,159 companies have workforce data; 548 have none and are never counted as zeros.
